Minimum course duration: 2 days (5 days total for Competent Crew)
Course Material Provided as part of the course: None, however we recommend purchase of the RYA Training Scheme Log Book suitable for this course, please refer to the prices on the booking form.
Insurance:  We recommend that you take travel insurance in case the course you have signed up for is cancelled or postponed due to weather or other scenarios out of our control including your own medical situation. Travel insurance should cover refunds for air and land transport and accommodation. RYA TWO DAY /  NIGHT LIVE ABOARD COURSE (START YACHTING OR COMPETENT CREW) 

Two Day ‘Live Aboard’ Course’s runs 9am on Day 1 to 4pm on Day Two. 

.All catering provided aboard. Wet weather gear supplied on loan. 

Taught on the beautiful Sydney Harbour, the RYA Start Yachting Course is the perfect place to start! This RYA sailing school Course covers the fundamentals of sailing – including terminology and wind awareness and skills such as knot tying, steering and sail trimming. At EastSail, you will be at the helm right from the first lesson and
be able to comfortably perform all the basic learn to sail manoeuvres of sailing by the end of the Course.

No previous experience required. At our sailing school we will teach you everything you need to know to how to learn to sail. Our class sizes are an intimate five people or fewer.
By the end of this Course you will understand the terminology and the importance of wind direction. You will also know how to rig and prepare the yachts for sailing, execute manoeuvres of tacking and gybing, understand basic right of way rules, and be able to tie a number of useful basic knots.

We sleep aboard one of Eastsail's luxury yachts on the first night at the marina. Note; you are not asked to share a cabin with anyone and those coming as a couple can request to be together in a cabin. Our marina base has private bathrooms and showers.

SAMPLE TWO DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 Briefing re safety, accommodation, galley, Sailing, anchor in Sydney Harbour for lunch/break, sailing and safety drills, anchor for dinner aboard, night sailing, return to the marina, spend the night at the marina aboard

Day 2 Sailing and Safety Drills, Anchor for lunch – Seamanship Tasks, Sailing Offshore and Strong Wind procedures, Sail out to sea and offshore procedures, Return to Marina and docking practice, Sign off log books and certificate presentation


GENERAL INFORMATION

CERTIFICATION

The RYA Certificate will be issued after the successful completion of the required number of Days and satisfactory demonstration of the skills as described in the RYA Logbook. If you have not completed a Course with us, please email through a brief resume of your sailing experience.

ON BOARD

Sailing aboard Eastsail's modern, well equipped Beneteau 40s and Beneteau 47.7 will make your time aboard both comfortable and easy.  Accommodation is in share cabins or the saloon. Single sex cabin occupancy. All vessels have an enclosed bathroom on board.

MEETING AREA

We meet at Eastsail, at the d'Albora Marina, New Beach Road, Rushcutters Bay. Adjacent to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and the world Famous Rushcutters Bay yachting community.

COURSE BOOKS

The RYA have handbooks available to support your learning, they can be purchased for $30, and a logbook for $20 and Express Posted to you for an additional $12

WHAT TO BRING FOR ALL COURSES

Packed in a small, soft bag – NO HARD BAGS OR CASES WITH WHEELS

Toiletries including sunscreen

Refillable water bottle

1 warm jumper/fleece

Snug fitting hat/cap

Wet weather gear (please pre-order from us)

Sailing gloves 

Small towel

One or Two pairs of enclosed, non-marking shoes (must be worn at all times on deck)

WHAT TO BRING FOR OVERNIGHT COURSES

Passport sized photo for Day Skipper/Coastal Skipper Certificate – it will not be issued without a photo

# of t-shirts/shorts and clothing will be dependent on numbers of days on the water. 

Favourite snacks/chocolate

Small amount of alcohol or special drink for an evening crew debriefing

Pillow + sleeping bag or sheet and blanket

Small torch or head torch with red light setting

Books, a game, deck of cards or a music player

Ear plugs 

One to Three t-shirts

One to Three pair of shorts and one pair of long pants

One to five pairs of Underwear and socks

Swimming costume

Wet weather gear, safety equipment.
Food Aboard(please advise Eastsail of any dietary requirements).

SEASICKNESS

We recommend an early night, healthy food and no alcohol for 24 hours prior. Ask your chemist to recommend a seasickness tablet. It may be advisable to start taking tablets the night before your Course.
